about writing

As soon as I learned how to form letters and put them on paper (around age 5-6), I was making up stories and putting them in black on white.

When I was in 4th-6th grade, we had a Creative Writing unit, in which I thrived. At that point, I was in the middle of my "Nancy Drew"-phase, so all of my own stories were about a strong female lead catching bad guys in the support of an entertaining friend and a kind boyfriend.

At the start of the 21st century, I stumbled upon "Roswell". A tv-show about three teenagers, who were actually hybrids (part human, part alien) with powers. Their struggle to hide amongst humans, to appear normal and avoid detection lured me in (I'm a big sucker for the supernatural, having devoured countless Stephen King novels as young and being an avid follower of "The X-files"). But mostly it was the well-written characters that spoke to me.

When the weakly 40-minutes episodes weren't enough, I turned to the internet and discovered Fanfiction. With a dial-up connection that kept cutting out every time I tried to load the next page, I became part of the Fanfiction community at the very beginning of its phenomenon. At first I was a mere reader, reading the stories written by other Roswell fans.

In 2002 I started writing my own Fanfiction and fell in love with "Roswell" all over again.
